On July 11, 2013, Matrix Design Group presented an overview of the Joint Base San Antonio (JBSA)-Randolph Joint Land Use Study (JLUS) planning process to the Northeast Partnership (NEP). Through a federal grant awarded by the Department of Defense Office of Economic Adjustment, the County of Bexar initiated a collaborative planning effort with JBSA-Randolph and local jurisdictions, agencies, and stakeholders to assess compatibility around JBSA-Randolph and other associated mission operational areas. The objectives of this planning effort are to identify ways in which potential conflicts between military operations and surrounding areas can be reduced while accommodating new growth and economic development, sustaining economic vitality, and protecting the general public's health and safety, without compromising the operational missions of the JBSA-Randolph. These objectives will be achieved through the identification of compatibility issues with JBSA-Randolph and development of various strategies that incorporate appropriate land use policy and resources planning tools. Following completion of the Joint Land Use Study, individual jurisdictions may consider and pursue adoption and implementation of the strategies – either in part or whole.
